Alarm inspection deadlines according to ČSN EN 50131

When inspections are mandatory, how often they must be carried out, and what penalties apply if you miss them.

How often is an inspection carried out?

Inspection of electronic security systems is not a one-time event. Standard ČSN EN 50131 and insurance terms require regular periodic inspections at precisely defined intervals.

Table of standard intervals

KategorieTypical useIntervaly
Kategorie 1Apartment building, flatonce a year
Kategorie 2Detached house, small officeonce a year
Kategorie 3Shop, warehouse, medium-sized office1-2 times a year
Kategorie 4High-risk workplaces, banks2-4 times a year

Initial inspection: the first moment

Initial inspection must be carried out immediately after installation, i.e. Before putting the system into live operation. The standard is not very precise here: a reasonable interval is within 2 weeks of commissioning.

The initial inspection confirms that the installation complies with the project documentation and standards. Without it, insurance companies generally refuse to recognise the system.

Periodic inspections: operating mode

After the initial inspection, the system moves to periodic mode. This means that in accordance with the category, they must be inspected at regular intervals, most commonly once every 12 months.

Insurance companies and contracts with security firms often require that the inspection was not older than 12 monthsIf your last inspection was in March 2025, you must renew it by March 2026.

Special cases and shortened intervals

Insurance terms and conditions may set a shorter interval than the standard. For example:

  • Insurance companies for apartment buildings often require 1 inspection every 12 months regardless of category
  • Some regulations for shops or offices require 2 inspections within 12 months
  • Banks and financial institutions usually have Detailed inspections quarterly

Zkontrolujte svou pojistnou smlouvu - in 90 per cent of cases, specific requirements regarding frequency are stipulated therein.

What counts as an inspection?

Jenom formal inspection report from an authorised person is considered a valid inspection. Routine maintenance carried out by the owner or routine servicing are not included.

The inspection must include:

  • Name and signature of the authorised inspection technician
  • Date of inspection
  • Detailed description of inspected elements
  • Result: "compliant" or list of defects
  • Stamp or message number

What are the risks of missing an inspection?

Failure to carry out an inspection may be very expensive:

  • Insurance claim rejected - in the event of a break-in or damage, the insurance company may refuse to pay out on the grounds that the system was not demonstrably in working order.
  • Increased insurance premium - some insurers increase premiums if an inspection is missing
  • Breach of contract with the Central Alarm Office (PCO) - if inspections have been agreed with PCO, failing to carry them out constitutes a breach of contract
